So here we are Bolt Addicts. Week three of the 2012 NFL Season and the Chargers are facing their biggest competition thus far.
Most of Bolt Nation was glued to the TV on Monday Night Football to size up two formidable opponents, The Broncos vs The Falcons. That game couldn’t have gone more the Chargers way. I think the biggest advantage for SD has to be the short week Atlanta will endure. After a hard fought game on Monday, they will have to go on a long cross country trip to the west coast.
Atlanta comes in 2-0 with some decent numbers and an impressive win over Peyton Manning and The Broncos. The injuries sustained were to Julio Jones, Roddy White, the concussion to Christopher Owens and the devastating loss of CB Brent Grimes due to a season ending torn Achilles tendon were worst but through that, Atlanta overcame and finished. Then came the arrest of RB Michael Turner for a DUI after the Monday Night football game. But expect Turner to be suited up. A suspension could be coming his way but not before Sundays game. The league might be too busy Head Hunting Head Hunters in New Orleans.
The Falcons could be opportunistic but didn’t show it last week. After 4 Turnover in 8 minutes they only led by only 13 points. Although that should be something to worry about because Atlanta is plus 7 in the Turnover Ratio and lets face it we have been less than good in that area. ATL has trouble controlling the line of scrimmage on defense giving up 135 rushing yards per game which could be a great sign to hear Mathews is in pads and practicing. The Falcons used a nickel defense most of their series. Showing disregard and a sort of carelessness towards rushers including last week giving up 100 plus yards to McGahee in 22 carries. But the nickel proved to be affective against Peyton Manning creating 3 interceptions and doing their best impersonation of the Chargers in ’07. Look for Asanti Sammuels to beast out on Sunday coming in with the same intensity as he took on Denver. Remember Mike Smith and The Falcons are 5-0 to when they travel.out west.
The Chargers having their RB Mathews should run, run and run some more. Im not sure if Norv Turner had any plays in that thick skull for Mathews to break this game wide open. A mix of Jackie Battle and Ryan would be a fun duo to watch. Ideally what we need to see is this offensive line hold and create wholes for these RB’s and protect the Chargers franchise QB Philip Rivers.
This should be a great game to attend to. This game is in danger of a black out and could become official as soon as Thursday unless they get another extension.
Let me know what you concerns are for Sundays match up against the Dirty Birds from Atlanta. Your opinions are always welcome.
