Meet Melvin Ingram: Chargers Newest DE/OLB

With the 18th pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Chargers select Melvin Ingram, Defensive End from South Carolina. A few mock drafts had Ingram within the top 10 picks. Labeled as a productive playmaker with great football instincts, he will be a welcomed addition to our already outstanding OLB crew. Has the speed to rush the outside edge and can put on an impressive bull rush. His combine tape showed a very athletic DE with great hands. His downside and could be the reason why he fell to 18, is his size – 6’1″ 264lbs with an arm length of 31 1/2″ If he was to rush inside, he may not be able to shed a double team as quickly as we would like.  His build does remind me of Dwight Freeney, and with our 3-4 DEF he will be rushing from the OLB position.

2012 Combine Stats:  40yd: 4.79 secs – Bench Press: 28 reps – Vertical Jump: 34.5″ – Broad Jump: 109″ – 3 Cone Drill 6.83 secs – 20yd Shuttle: 4:18 secs
