Daily Lightning Strike: Re-sign Vincent Jackson, Please

Source: NFL.com

A lot of big name wide receivers are going to be hitting the free agent market. Some of those names are: Marques Colston, Reggie Wayne, Brandon Lloyd, Wes Welker, Stevie Johnson, DeSean Jackson, Plaxico Burress, Mario Manningham, and Vincent Jackson. Now look who is at the end of that list Vincent Jackson. The Bolts need to find a way to keep him and resign him. They can’t let him go to another team. He is vital to the passing game as we all know. Now out of this list I agree with this article saying he will command a lot of money since he is a top receiver still in his prime and get the most interest from teams wanting to add him to their roster. Now we are all hoping the Chargers give him a good deal that he will be happy with and can get back to football.

We all know he has had some off the field issues and his contract holdout that shouldn’t have happened which makes this situation a little more questionable on whether he will stay or go. Though the team and owner have said they believe in continuity right now, this will be big in seeing if they keep that intact. I know Rivers can get great play out of the backups behind the starting wide outs but there is something more with Jackson. He and Jackson work so well on the field it is fun to watch. I’m sure Rivers has already told them that he would like them to keep Jackson.

As fans, we want Jackson to stay in Lightning Bolts because who wants to see him have a breakout season next year for another team? Like we’ve seen with a lot of former Bolts who didn’t get resigned to new contracts. This would be a great start for AJ to show us fans that he is true in saying he will do things a little different in some areas since he’s been with the Bolts. Resign Jackson please! He has proved himself on the field countless times.

I wish that it would happen, but I just don't see it happening. Not because the Chargers don't want him, but simply because the price would be so steep it would cripple the team. We would definitely not be able to sign guys like Tolbert or Hardwick or Gaither for that matter. More importantly it would make it difficult for use to go after an impact pass rusher in free-agency. A team like San Fran for example has had a taste of the playoffs, a taste they had forgotten about for many years. Adding a player like Vincent Jackson to compliment Vernon Davis, would make them a hard offense to defend. I think they would be willing to spend 50 million to get him. I hope that I am wrong. Can't imagine him playing for another team!!

@SDNative I'm hoping it happens. It will be tough for sure. I'm just tired of all our players starting here then having monster seasons for other teams right after. While the bolts are stuck in the same spot each year close but not enough. I'm hoping AJ does things a little differently then usual. Also, I agree about the 49ers they would just add to the dangerous weapons they already have but I don't want to see him in Red and Gold or another team either. He needs to stay in Lightning Bolts!

I think if they dump McNiel, that could help. Another team that I think will be interested is Carolina. Cam is the real deal and if you gave him a weapon like VJ that could be dangerous plus Ron Rivera knows him and they already of Seji and Legaduu. A lot of familiarity there. Unfortunately there are just two many teams where he could be their missing piece of the puzzle. But if we landed someone like Colston, that might not be too bad either. He is definitley faster after the catch.

@SDNative I'm also excited for Vincent Brown he was awesome and made big plays when he was in this past season. Great seeing a local player on the home pro team and making great plays.

@DavidMedina_ Colston is also a big boy to, I think he is 6'4". I really am excited to see if Vincent Brown starts to come along as well. He is not real big but he has great hands. Loved watching him play at SDSU.

@SDNative Yeah there are a lot of teams that would love to sign him. I was thinking about Colston while writing this to. He would be a good addition plus, its only fair since drew brees worked Sproles to join him with the saints.
